I have been reading Jim Sandman’s book, Heaven is Like Eternal Sex. When I first read the title, I was a little concerned that my friend had gone too far. However, as I read his devotional, I realized that Jim’s approach is similar to Jim Eldredge and Brent Curtis’ The Sacred Romance or John Piper’s Desiring God (Meditations of a Christian Hedonist). Both of these books had tremendous impact upon my life in the late 1990s. Even as I type I have a sign in front of me that states: “God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him.”
Like these writers, Jim invites us to find completeness in Christ no matter what our hearts are seeking. Jim is not condescending but is very open about his own journey (i.e., chapter 12, “The Best High.”) Finding true companionship, freedom, hope, and home are all covered. I recommend Heaven is Like Eternal Sex because it may change your life.
